Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Plant production is essential to ensure global food security as seeds, fruits, leaves and tubers represent a major part of human and animal diets. The vast biodiversity of the plant kingdom has also proven key to identifying molecules of interest for cosmetics, healthcare, green chemistry, agriculture and environmental protection. Plant proteomics developed as a relevant tool to face current challenges, providing in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying plant responses to environmental constraints, including climate change. The transcriptional, post-transcriptional, translational and post-translational control of gene expression result in a highly dynamic proteome, which is closer to the plant phenotype than the fixed genome or the transcriptome. Recent studies highlighted the specificity and complexity of plant translational machinery and the importance of selective and sequential mRNA translation into proteins in both plant physiological transitions and response to the environment. The latest advances in proteomic data analyses also led to the emergence of multi-omics integration strategies. This Special Issue aims to outline current plant proteomic methodologies, highlight successful applications of proteomics in plant research, and discuss the challenges for future applications of systems biology approaches in plant sciences.

Proteomes is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
