Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising adjunctive treatment for various dental diseases, offering a non-invasive and effective approach for managing infections, inflammation, and tissue regeneration. Recent advancements in PDT for dental applications have focused on optimizing light delivery systems, improving photosensitizer efficacy, and enhancing treatment outcomes for conditions such as periodontal disease, caries, oral cancer, and bacterial infections. PDT’s antibacterial properties have gained significant attention, providing an alternative to traditional antibiotics in combating oral pathogens. This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest developments in PDT, including novel photosensitizers, advanced nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery, and innovative light sources that increase therapeutic precision. The application of PDT in combination with other therapeutic modalities, as well as its role in personalized dental care, will also be explored.

In parallel, advancements in biomaterials for dental applications have opened new avenues for improving the treatment of dental diseases. The development of novel biomaterials has proven to be vital in addressing issues like periodontal and alveolar bone defects. These materials not only support the healing of damaged tissues but also enable the delivery of therapeutic agents in a controlled manner, further enhancing the effectiveness of treatment.

This Special Issue, entitled “Recent Advances in Photodynamic Therapy for Dental Diseases”, invites contributions that explore the latest innovations in PDT, drug delivery systems, and biomaterials. By advancing both PDT and biomaterial technologies, this Special Issue aims to contribute to the ongoing progress in dental therapeutics.

Pharmaceutics invites submissions focused on drug delivery systems and novel formulations related to dental tissue engineering and PDT, while Biomedicines encourages submissions on novel materials and biotechnology for dental applications.

We look forward to your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
