Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on the discovery and development of medical countermeasures (MCMs) for emerging and re-emerging RNA viruses. Recent events have highlighted the multifaceted and global impacts of RNA viruses from the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, multiple filovirus (Ebola, Sudan, and Marburg viruses) outbreaks, the re-emergence of the Measles virus, Oropouche virus, New World Arenaviruses (Chapare and Sabia viruses), Avian Influenza virus, and Nipah virus, among others. The scope of this edition encompasses manuscripts focused on discovery using traditional methods such as multiomics studies for target discovery and validation, compound library screening, retargeting, vaccine development, including both antigen and platform optimization, and in silico discovery using artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML). Studies should include in vitro proof-of-concept (at a minimum) research to confirm the activity of identified MCMs.

We particularly encourage manuscripts related to all phases of discovery through clinical development, including in vivo model development and natural history studies that are critical for proof-of-efficacy studies, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) and safety studies, manufacturing optimization, and studies that confirm the previously reported efficacy of MCMs under good laboratory conditions.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
