Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Iberian Pyrite Belt metallogenic province has been explored and exploited since Roman times. Massive sulfides and associated minerals were found as world class deposits at Aljustrel, Neves-Corvo, Rio Tinto, and Tharsis, for example, while medium- and minor-sized deposits almost reached 100 deposits. Despite this long-lasting exploration period, new discoveries have been made in recent years. Therefore, mineral exploration, rising from traditional methods to new techniques and innovations, play an important role in current research regarding the demands of the EU Green Deal.
The Cu-Pb-Zn ore bodies positioned in the regional stratigraphic column, as well as their associated tectonic models, are currently well established in most locations around the province. Nevertheless, the identification of mineralized ore lenses has benefited from advances in geophysics and geochemistry, as well as geochronological studies, that identify precise chronostratigraphic-based ore horizons with a great focus on the purposes of mineral exploration. Both sediment- and volcanic-hosted ore horizons have been studied from an isotope geochemistry point of view with the purpose of searching and identifying new findings. Due to intense exploration and geophysical campaigns in recent decades, new findings above depths of 200–300 meters may be unexpected, with depths of 500–1000 meters or more being the present exploration depth threshold. Therefore, front-line techniques, such the ones targeted in this Special Issue, are extremely relevant to formulate, improve, and constrict geological models.
With these questions in mind, and with new results and/or new trends in analytical techniques and instrumentation being applied to mineral exploration methodologies, we invite all researchers working in the Iberian Pyrite Belt to submit their work.
This Special Issue, ‘Iberian Pyrite Belt: Advances in Mineral Exploration, Mineral Deposits and Geological Processes’, is a merged upgrade of a previous planned Special Issue on the ‘Geodynamic Evolution, Mineralogical and Geochemical Characterization of the Iberian Belt’. This new Special Issue will focus mainly on advances in the field of mineral exploration and new results and discoveries, contributing to regional- and local-scale geological prossesses and mineral systems concepts.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Minerals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
