Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Bile acids have proven to serve as powerful bioactive molecules whose role extends far beyond lipid digestion, acting as key signaling agents that influence metabolic pathways, immune regulation, and gut microbiota dynamics. Disruptions in bile acid synthesis, transport, and receptor-mediated signaling are increasingly linked to a wide range of metabolic disorders, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular complications.

This Special Issue will bring together cutting-edge research that explores the molecular mechanisms of bile acid transport, the role of bile acids in metabolic regulation, and the therapeutic potential of targeting bile acid pathways. Topics will include bile acid receptor signaling, transporter function, microbiota interactions, and emerging pharmacological interventions.

By highlighting interdisciplinary approaches, from basic science to clinical applications, this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive overview of how bile acid biology intersects with metabolic health. It will serve as a platform for advancing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and identifying novel strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders. Researchers, clinicians, and industry professionals are invited to contribute to this timely and impactful collection.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
