Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cloud computing is an emerging computing paradigm allowing users to access and utilize a range of networking, computing and storage capabilities, and applications without the need for local infrastructure or hardware. The emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) applications and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Smart City applications, such as smart healthcare and smart transportation, the huge amount of generated data by IoT devices, and the increasing demand for scalable and efficient computing solutions, have given rise to the edge computing paradigm, with decision-making computations being placed closer to IoT devices. Edge computing increases the Quality-of-Services (QoS) for IoT applications and ensures privacy-preserving processing.

This Special Issue aims to explore and showcase the diverse range of applications and advancements in the fields of IoT, edge, cloud, and distributed computing, which have emerged as transformative technologies across multiple domains.

This Special Issue will feature research articles with innovative approaches, novel algorithms, architectures, and frameworks that leverage AI, edge computing, and cloud computing to address real-world challenges. We also accept reviews that pave the way for new research directions and solutions. The topics include but are not limited to:

  • Machine learning-based efficient resource management and allocation algorithms.
  • Machine learning and data analytics in edge and cloud distributed computing systems.
  • Automatic AI machine learning operating on edge devices.
  • MLOps in cloud computing and edge computing.
  • Energy-efficient algorithms for IoT, edge, and cloud computing infrastructure.
  • QoS of IoT and cloud applications.
  • Distributed storage and backup algorithms.
  • Content delivery and streaming algorithms.
  • Machine learning-based anomaly detection.
  • Serverless computing, function-as-a-service (FaaS), and microservices applications.
  • Efficient task offloading algorithms for performance optimization of IoT applications.
  • Blockchain and cloud computing architectures, applications, and performance.
  • Data security and privacy in IoT, edge, and cloud distributed computing systems.
  • Data governance, compliance, and transfer among inter-clouds and inter-edge data centers.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
