Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The increasing complexity of biological systems and medical problems continues to drive the need for innovative quantitative approaches that integrate mathematics, statistics, and computational and analytical methods. In the past decades, major advances in biotechnology, medical imaging, omics sciences, electronic health records, wearable devices, and artificial intelligence have generated unprecedented volumes of biological and health-related data. However, current mathematical and computational models frequently struggle to capture the multiscale, nonlinear, stochastic, and adaptive nature of biological systems and medical data. Likewise, many statistical and machine learning methods achieve high predictive performance but often lack interpretability, mechanistic insight, and biological relevance. This growing divide between theory-driven and data-driven approaches presents one of the most important challenges in modern biological and medical research. This Special Issue therefore aims to provide a platform for researchers working at the interface of mathematics, statistics, computational methods, data science, biology, and medicine. We particularly welcome contributions that address existing methodological gaps, develop innovative modeling frameworks, integrate mechanistic and data-driven approaches, and advance the analysis, prediction, control, and optimization of biological and medical systems.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Mathematical, statistical, and computational modeling of biological and medical systems; digital twins of living systems; multiscale modeling of biological processes;

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
