Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

During the last decade, the field of epidemiology has experienced a significant surge, driven by factors like increasing global connectivity, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, and the availability of increasingly detailed, multimodal health data. At present, effective public health responses rely heavily on robust analytical tools, such as mathematical models and statistical methods, to decipher disease dynamics, predict future trends, and provide evidence-based intervention policy support.

This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge advancements in mathematical modeling and statistical methods applied to understanding and controlling diseases and broader public health challenges. We seek to highlight innovative approaches, methodologies, and techniques that move beyond traditional modeling in epidemiology, incorporating modern statistical techniques, artificial intelligence/machine learning/deep learning (AI/ML/DL), and multimodal data streams. The topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to: mechanistic modeling, network and agent-based modeling, Bayesian inference, advanced epidemic data analysis techniques, application of AI/ML/DL to disease modeling, detection, and prediction, modeling the impact of intervention policies (e.g., vaccination and non-pharmaceutical interventions), and the integration of ‘One Health’ approaches into epidemiological investigations. We welcome contributions that demonstrate methodological innovation, rigorous analysis, and a clear connection to real-world epidemiological problems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
