Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Marine microorganisms represent an unparalleled treasure trove of bioactive compounds, holding immense promise for drug discovery and therapeutic applications. In response to the growing global demand for novel therapeutics to tackle pressing health challenges, this Special Issue is dedicated to highlighting state-of-the-art research on the isolation, characterization, and functional exploration of metabolites from marine microorganisms. It will emphasize their bioactivity and therapeutic significance.
Contributions should encompass studies on the identification of bioactive metabolites from diverse marine microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and microalgae. Their pharmacological evaluations, including, but not limited to, anticancer, antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective activities, will be supported by in vitro and in vivo research. The focus of this Special Issue will also be on clarifying the structural diversity, biosynthesis pathways, and mechanisms of action of these compounds. Innovations in metabolomics-guided discovery, CRISPR-activated gene cluster mining, synthetic biology approaches to activate silent biosynthetic pathways, and AI-driven virtual screening of active substances are highly encouraged.
We invite original research articles, reviews, and short communications that integrate marine microbiology, chemistry, and pharmacology. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, this Special Issue aims to expedite the development of marine-derived therapeutics and inspire creative solutions for global health issues. Join us in exploring this dynamic field and unlocking the hidden potential of marine microbial metabolites.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Marine Drugs is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
