Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the advent of electronics in the 1960s, the first computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools emerged, allowing the machining process to be automated, improving precision and production speed. Since then, they have become a key technology in modern manufacturing, being widely used in sectors such as aeronautics, automotive, electronics, etc.

Currently, there is a growing demand to increase productivity and reduce costs by improving the efficiency and quality of their production processes.

In this context, there have been rapid and continuous improvements in technology, allowing new approaches on control, accuracy, surface integrity, and process flexibility to be developed.

The latest trends in CNC machine tools focus on improving process control, comprising techniques for process monitoring through the on-line sensing of operations, allowing for real-time process adjustments. The aim is to ensure quality and repeatability in part production, as well as to increase flexibility and process control, in order to be able to adapt to the changing demands of the market. In addition, special attention is also being paid to the surface integrity of parts to ensure the functionality and durability of parts.

This Special Issue aims to collate innovative contributions on this topic, both from the point of view of new trends in CNC machine tools, as well as improvements in process control, new machining strategies, intelligent control, flexibility, precision, and surface integrity.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
