Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Metal complexes exhibit a range of coordination numbers and geometries, affording privileged scaffolds for the design of optimized metallodrugs. Accordingly, rational LBDD and SBDD approaches help researchers identify molecular hits. The pharmacodynamic properties of these complexes arise from intermolecular recognition of them within the binding sites of biomolecules, including target proteins, nucleic acids, and cellular membrane receptors. Thus, the 3D structure of the complex, the chemical nature of the ligands, and the chemistry of the central metal ion are related to the extent of these interactions. These features enable modulation of the biological roles of the complexes, including enzyme inhibition, as well as antitumor, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, and antioxidant activities, among others. At the same time, ligand lability governs ADME (pharmacokinetic) properties. Furthermore, advances in bioanalytical methodologies are imperative to prove these interactions, and many efforts have been made in this direction.

For this Special Issue, researchers can submit original research papers, mini-reviews, and short communications about the biological activities of metal complexes and their interactions with biomolecules. Topics of interest include synthesis, characterization, and in vitro or in vivo pharmacological evaluation of metal compounds, metallophores, and potential diagnostic agents. We also encourage contributions focused on computational and bioanalytical methods to help investigate these systems.
