Prof. Dr. Eliseo Clementini Appointed Associate Editor of ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information (IJGI)

We are proud to have one new Associate Editor, Prof. Dr. Eliseo Clementini, joining the ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information (IJGI, ISSN: 2220-9964) Editorial Board in March. His brief introduction is listed below.

Prof. Dr. Eliseo Clementini has been a full professor of information processing systems at the University of L’Aquila, Italy, since October 2022. He was previously an associate professor from November 1998 and a researcher from July 1993 at the same university. He graduated in electronics engineering in 1990 at the University of L’Aquila and obtained a Ph.D. in computer science from INSA Lyon, France, in 2009. In 1993, he was a Research Associate at the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, University of Maine, USA. In 2005, he was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Geography and Geomatics of the University of Glasgow, UK. He was a Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Vienna in 2015 and 2016. His main research interests fall on modeling geographical space with particular reference to computational and cognitive aspects, contributing to the birth of a new discipline called geographical information science. His research's most significant practical impact concerned the definition of models of topological relations for spatial databases, which led to the definition of the “Simple Features” international standard of the Open Geospatial Consortium and ISO TC 211. Other important contributions concerned the “positional” spatial relations (distance, orientation, and projective) that constituted milestones of Qualitative Spatial Reasoning, a subsector of Artificial Intelligence. He is featured in Stanford University World’s Top 2% Scientists list in 2022 and 2023.

We are honored that we have the opportunity to introduce Prof. Dr. Eliseo Clementini to our editorial team, and we are confident that, with the guidance of our Associate Editor, we will continue to improve the reputation and quality of IJGI.
