Special Issue Information

This Special Issue is dedicated to “Epilepsy Surgery”. It includes a collection of articles on the latest techniques, technologies, and methods used in presurgical evaluation of patients with intractable epilepsy. Since the field is rapidly evolving, the purpose of this Special Issue is to provide a critical update for neurologists and epileptologists on the latest approach to presurgical evaluation including the current understanding of the diagnostic tests and their limitations, and the latest technologies and methods used in presurgical process and in the operating room.

Suggested topics:

1. History of epilepsy surgery

2. Presurgical evaluation; an overview

3. Scalp recording in epilepsy monitoring unit; technical aspects

4. Neuroimaging in epilepsy surgery5. Neuropsychological testing in epilepsy, strengths

5. Neuropsychological testing in epilepsy, strengths and weaknesses

6. Intracarotid amobarbytal procedure (IAP; Wada test); indications and interpretation

7. Invasive EEG recordings; methods

8. Subdural grid electrodes; pros and cons

9. SEEG in epilepsy; pros and cons

10. Seizure localization: irritative zone, epileptogenic zone, seizure onset zone, and the rest

11. High-frequency oscillations (HFOs) and seizure localization

12. Presurgical cortical mapping; methods

13. Hippocampal sclerosis, focal cortical dysplasia, and other pathologies in epilepsy surgery

14. Epilepsy surgery; new surgical methods

15. How much tissue to remove in epilepsy surgery? Pros and cons.
