Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tobacco and nicotine use continue to represent major challenges for healthcare systems worldwide, particularly among adolescents and young adults. The increasing availability of electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco products and other emerging nicotine delivery systems has created new clinical and public health concerns. These products are associated with a wide range of potential health consequences, including respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological and mental health effects, many of which remain insufficiently understood.

Beyond their impact on population health, tobacco and nicotine use have important implications for clinical practice and healthcare delivery. Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in the early identification of nicotine dependence, patient counselling, smoking cessation support and the prevention of long-term health complications. Strengthening the evidence base in these areas is essential to improve patient outcomes and support effective healthcare interventions.

This Special Issue aims to advance knowledge on the health consequences and healthcare implications of tobacco and nicotine use among adolescents and young adults. Particular emphasis will be placed on clinically relevant outcomes, healthcare interventions, smoking cessation strategies, disease prevention, health promotion and the integration of evidence-based approaches into healthcare practice.

We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, clinical studies, implementation research and healthcare-focused policy analyses. Topics of interest include the effects of tobacco and nicotine exposure on physical and mental health, healthcare utilization, screening and prevention strategies, smoking cessation interventions, health inequalities, patient education and multidisciplinary approaches to improving health outcomes in younger populations.

By focusing on health outcomes, clinical practice and healthcare delivery, this Special Issue seeks to provide valuable evidence for healthcare professionals, researchers and policymakers working to address the ongoing challenges associated with tobacco and nicotine use.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
