Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Health informatics has emerged as a cornerstone of modern healthcare, providing innovative solutions to enhance patient outcomes, optimise workflows, and support evidence-based decision-making. In primary care, where most patient interactions occur, the integration of health informatics tools—such as electronic health records, clinical decision support systems, telehealth, and data analytics—offers significant potential to improve access, efficiency, and the overall quality of care. As healthcare systems worldwide face increasing demands and resource constraints, research in this area is more relevant than ever.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the Special Issue “Innovations in Primary Care Informatics: Bridging Technology and Patient-Centered Care.”

This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research and practical insights on the design, implementation, and evaluation of health informatics interventions in primary care settings. It seeks to explore how digital health technologies and data-driven approaches align with the mission of healthcare to promote evidence-based practices, patient-centred care, and innovations that advance public health. By focusing specifically on primary care, the Special Issue emphasises a critical arena in which health informatics can make a transformative impact.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implementation and evaluation of electronic health records in primary care;
  • Clinical decision support systems for general practitioners;
  • Artificial Intelligence Applications in Primary Care;
  • Machine learning Applications in Primary Care;
  • Robotic applications in Primary Care;
  • Telemedicine and remote monitoring for primary care patients;
  • Data analytics and predictive modelling in population health management;
  • Patient engagement, self-management tools, and digital literacy;
  • Interoperability and data integration across primary and community care;
  • Ethical, legal, and policy considerations in primary care informatics;
  • Training, education, and workforce development in digital health.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Healthcare is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
