Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Population ageing is a global phenomenon partly caused by declining fertility rates and increasing life expectancy [1]. The proportion of older adults is expected to rise over the coming decades, increasing the burden of chronic diseases globally [1,2]. Today, the global burden of chronic diseases has dramatically increased due to population ageing, and projections suggest this trend will persist [3]. This situation underscores the need for health-promoting and disease-management interventions. Key stakeholders in disease management and prevention include healthcare professionals, who are trained to facilitate health promotion and contribute to the treatment of chronic diseases. Yet, there is a paucity of studies that provide understanding of the preventive, curative, and palliative role of geriatric care (i.e., healthcare for older adults) in response to population ageing. Existing studies are obscured or not integrated into a unit of scholarly work that can be accessed by all stakeholders. This Special Issue, therefore, aims to compile studies assessing the role of geriatric services in clinically managing and preventing chronic diseases, prioritising research based on the following themes:
- Clinical health promotion in the care of older adults living with chronic diseases.
- Role of geriatric care in the long-term management of chronic diseases.
- Palliative care for older adults with chronic diseases.
- Interprofessional collaboration in the geriatric management of chronic diseases.
- The role of integrated care in chronic disease prevention and management.
- Challenges and adaptation of healthcare services for chronic disease prevention and management during climate change and disasters.
We are accepting literature reviews, primary research, and secondary data analyses that demonstrate methodological rigour. Researchers can submit an abstract or a full-length article related to any of the above themes. Papers will be subjected to a rigorous peer review by at least two experts in the field. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
