Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The genetic regulation of neuronal development, function, and plasticity is fundamental to the formation and operation of neural circuits that govern behavior. Advances in genomics, epigenomics, single-cell transcriptomics, genome editing, and systems neuroscience have transformed our understanding of how genetic and epigenetic mechanisms influence neuronal identity, connectivity, and activity. These discoveries have provided important insights into the biological basis of cognition, emotion, behavior, and neurodevelopmental, neurological, and psychiatric disorders.
This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews exploring the molecular and genetic mechanisms that regulate neuronal function and behavioral outcomes. Topics of interest include gene regulatory networks, neuronal development, synaptic plasticity, neuronal circuit function, gene–environment interactions, behavioral genetics, and the genetic basis of brain disorders. Studies employing innovative experimental and computational approaches are particularly encouraged.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Genes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
