Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fractional calculus is a branch of mathematics that extends the concepts of derivatives and integrals to non-integer orders. This field has evolved significantly over the years and has become one of the most rapidly growing areas in applied mathematics, physics, and a wide range of other scientific and engineering disciplines. Fractional calculus provides a powerful framework for modeling complex phenomena in various fields where traditional integer-order models fall short, offering more accurate representations of real-world systems.

Over the last several years, there has been substantial progress in the development of new techniques and methods for solving fractional-order systems. Researchers have focused on improving both analytical and numerical methods, making it increasingly feasible to apply fractional calculus in real-world scenarios.

This Special Issue is primarily dedicated to the exploration of fractional systems using novel and accurate numerical approaches. By applying these methods, we aim to uncover new dynamic behaviors, identify critical system properties, and enhance the design of control strategies through numerical simulations. The main objective is to contribute to a deeper understanding of fractional-order systems and their practical applications, particularly in engineering and applied sciences.

The topics of interest for this SI include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Numerical Simulations of Dynamic Behaviors in Fractional Engineering Applications;
  • Control Design in Fractional Engineering Applications;
  • Sensitivity Analysis in Fractional Engineering Applications;
  • Fractional Programming and Its Applications;
  • Fractional-Order Particle Swarm Optimization.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Fractal and Fractional is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
