Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As massive, distributed energy sources are integrated into the power distribution network,  traditional distribution networks have been evolving into an active distribution network (ADN). Thanks to the development of photovoltaics (PVs), wind turbines (WTs), energy storage (ESS), electrical vehicles (EVs), controllable loads (CLs), etc., all of these distributed energy sources (DESs) are introducing planning and operation challenges into ADN. On the one hand, although the capacity of each individual DES is small, the number of DES integrated into the ADN is growing larger and larger, making the integrated controllability massive and essential for ADN. On the other hand, the intermittence and fluctuations of DESs lead to bi-directional power flows and frequent variations in the operation state. How to plan and control the integrated DES within the AND has attracted significant attention from academic and industry researchers.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate state-of-the-art integrated DES planning and operations for ADN.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Distributed energy sources planning;
  • Electricity market design to enable the integration of distributed energy sources;
  • Multiple microgrids planning and operations
  • Coordination of integrated energy sources and ADN;
  • ADN planning and assessment models with large-scale DES;
  • Stochastic and robust methods to deal with the uncertainties of planning and operations;
  • Deep-learning-based methods for ADN awareness, control and so on;
  • Impact of smart meters, PMUs and other new technologies for DES and ADN;
  • Grid forming technologies for DES and ADN.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
