Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

A circular economy is an economic system of natural resources and the environment that is based on the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling materials. The system, in contrast to the traditional linear economy, is regenerative. It minimizes resource input, waste, emission, and energy use and leakage through the design, maintenance, repair, reuse, and recycling of materials; clean and closed loop production; and responsible consumption. The circular economy is a sustainable solution to the current linear economic system’s problems, which treat the environment as a waste reservoir. Reducing the resources used, and the waste and leakage generated, conserves resources and helps to reduce environmental pollution and degradation. This Special Issue aims at publishing high quality research related to the economic, social, technology, finance, policy, and management dimensions of the circular economy. We encourage the submission of research covering the broad areas of, but not limited to, the following topics: moving away from a linear economy towards a circular economy; the creation of circular economy standards; and the development of evaluation methods, circular business models, development and management strategies, policies, and incentive programs to promote a circular economy. Areas of application can include the products, processes, infrastructure, equipment, and services, and can be applied to all industry sectors. The Special Issue is expected to enhance our knowledge about the building blocks of an accelerated transition towards the circular economy.
