Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue of Dentistry Journal, titled The Ethical and Professional Nature of Dentistry, invites submissions that critically explore the moral, professional, and social dimensions of contemporary oral healthcare. Dentistry operates at the intersection of clinical care, business imperatives, and societal responsibility—raising complex ethical questions and professional challenges that demand rigorous scholarly attention. This Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue across topics including dental ethics, healthcare professionalism, the sociology of oral health, and dental public health.
Particular interest will be given to research examining the financing of oral healthcare, including implications for equity and justice, as well as the persistent and evolving challenges associated with access to dental care. Submissions may be empirical, theoretical, or reflective in nature, and are encouraged to draw from diverse disciplines such as bioethics, health sociology, policy studies, and clinical sciences.
By highlighting the foundational values and social responsibilities that underpin the dental profession, this Special Issue aims to provoke critical reflection and support the development of ethically informed, socially responsive dental practice. Contributions that consider global, Indigenous, or underrepresented perspectives are especially welcome.
