Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Crystal materials are the cornerstone of modern optoelectronics, determining the performance of devices that manipulate light. Recent breakthroughs in synthesis, defect engineering, and heterostructure design have enabled unprecedented atomic-scale control over crystal properties, pushing the boundaries of device efficiency, stability, and functionality.

Despite significant progress, several scientific and technological challenges remain. How can we precisely regulate crystal structure at the atomic scale to tailor bandgaps, carrier dynamics, and interfacial properties? What strategies can be employed to mitigate defect-induced non-radiative recombination and enhance operational stability under realistic conditions? Furthermore, how can advanced characterization techniques, coupled with device electro-optic simulations, provide predictive models for rational device design? The integration of emerging crystalline materials—from halide perovskites and wide-bandgap oxides to chiral liquid crystals—into scalable, high-performance systems demands continuous exploration at this multidisciplinary frontier.

This Special Issue, titled “Key Crystal Materials for Optoelectronic Devices: Structure Regulation, Performance Optimization, and Device Applications,” aims to showcase cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews that address these pivotal questions. We welcome contributions spanning the full spectrum of crystal-based optoelectronics, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Novel crystal growth and defect engineering;
  • Advanced characterization;
  • Theoretical insights and device-level simulations;
  • Design and fabrication of high-efficiency optoelectronic devices;
  • Emerging applications in flexible electronics, integrated photonics, optical encryption, and smart sensing.

We invite original research articles, perspectives, and review papers that highlight recent achievements and future directions in this vibrant field. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review, and accepted manuscripts will be published on a rolling basis.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Crystals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2100 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
