Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The development of a range of methods and techniques to enhance the surface properties of materials is of great importance, particularly for environments that demand high-performance coatings, such as those utilised in space, automotive, and aviation applications. Moreover, there is an increasing demand for the development of multifunctional coatings. The development of such properties has the potential to drive the development of novel storage systems, electronics (including sensors and batteries), and biomedical applications (such as tissue regeneration systems, new generation implants, and drug-delivery systems).
The Special Issue, titled 'Research on Preparation and Properties of Advanced Coatings for High-Performance and Multifunctional Applications', has been established with the objective of assembling a compendium of pioneering articles within the domain of multifunctional applications and high-performance coatings. This initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for advancements in material development, particularly in sectors that are both socially and economically significant.
The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Coatings technologies considered to be of particular significance in the field of high-performance applications of space, nuclear, aviation, and automotive engineering;
- Coating technologies with multifunctional properties in the fields of energy storage, energy conversion systems and medical applications;
- The development of high-throughput manufacturing technologies;
- Spraying technologies, including cold spraying techniques such as low-pressure cold spray, high pressure cold spray and aerosol deposition;
- The PVD and CVD methods including high-power impulse magnetron sputtering and plasma-assisted atomic layer deposition in the development of thin films for a wide range of demanding applications;
- The development of innovative methodologies for the fabrication of coatings and films;
- Novel techniques of coating testing for high-performance applications.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
