Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue "Bioinspired Computational Intelligence and Optimization in Engineering Systems" aims to gather high-quality contributions that explore the design, development, and application of nature-inspired algorithms across a wide range of engineering domains. Bioinspired techniques, derived from evolutionary processes, swarm intelligence, neural systems, and other natural phenomena, have proven to be powerful tools for solving complex, nonlinear, multi-objective, and uncertain problems in both theoretical and applied contexts.
This Special Issue invites original research articles, review papers, and short communications that present novel algorithmic developments, theoretical insights, or real-world applications of bioinspired computational intelligence. Relevant application areas include, but are not limited to, robotics and bioinspired systems, autonomous and multi-agent systems, energy and power systems, manufacturing and industrial processes, control and decision-making systems, logistics and operations, and maintenance.
We are particularly interested in works that demonstrate the advantages of bioinspired methods over traditional techniques in terms of adaptability, robustness, and performance, especially in dynamic, high-dimensional, or uncertain environments. Contributions that explore real-time implementation, hybrid strategies, or multi-objective optimization approaches are also encouraged.
Interdisciplinary submissions are highly welcome, especially those integrating bioinspired intelligence with emerging technologies such as cyber-physical systems, digital twins, edge computing, sensor networks, or AI-enhanced decision systems. Papers that include rigorous mathematical modeling, benchmarking, or the hybridization of bioinspired methods with machine learning, fuzzy logic, or other metaheuristics are of particular interest. This Special Issue aims to foster innovation in optimization and decision-making strategies to support the development of intelligent, efficient, and sustainable engineering systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
