Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, posing a formidable challenge in modern medicine despite decades of advances in pharmacological therapies and surgical interventions. While traditional treatments focus on managing symptoms and preventing progression, they offer limited potential in regenerating lost or damaged myocardial tissue. In recent years, the emergence of stem cell biology and tissue engineering has opened up a transformative frontier in the pursuit of cardiac regeneration and functional repair.

This Special Issue, “Stem Cell Biology and Tissue Engineering for Cardiology”, will spotlight the latest innovations, experimental breakthroughs, and translational insights shaping the future of cardiovascular regenerative medicine. Stem cell-based therapies—including pluripotent, mesenchymal, and cardiac progenitor cell systems—offer promising strategies to replenish cardiomyocytes, modulate inflammation, and stimulate endogenous repair mechanisms. Concurrently, advances in biomaterials, bioprinting, scaffold design, and organoid modeling have propelled cardiac tissue engineering into a new era of precision and personalization.

We invite contributions that explore these evolving paradigms from both basic science and clinical perspectives. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

Mechanistic insights into stem cell differentiation and cardiogenesis;

  • Innovations in cardiac scaffold fabrication and biomaterials;
  • Organoid and microfluidic models for cardiac development and disease;
  • Immunomodulatory properties of stem cell-derived products;
  • Preclinical and clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of regenerative therapies;
  • Translational challenges in stem cell-based cardiology.

Our goal is to curate a diverse collection of original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of this rapidly advancing field. We believe that fostering dialog between cell biologists, bioengineers, clinicians, and translational scientists will be essential in moving regenerative cardiology from bench to bedside.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions to this Special Issue of Biomedicines and working together to advance the collective mission of restoring cardiovascular health through innovation in stem cell biology and tissue engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomedicines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
