Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue will gather publications that focus on two key processes of the inflammation of the eye tissues. By definition, inflammation is a complex biological response of tissue to harmful stimuli. The inflammatory response activates cellular and biochemical cascades of mechanisms, involving molecular mediators, immune cells and blood vessels, in order to protect the organism by eliminating the cause and repairing the tissue. Inflammation can be divided according to duration as acute or chronic.
Inflammation is implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous ophthalmological diseases involving all eye structures. Studies reveal elements of the inflammatory response in disorders which were considered as degenerative. Recently, anti-inflammatory treatment has been developed, and novel therapeutic options are finding new indications.
We warmly invite authors and investigators to submit original articles and reviews focused on the latest achievements in considering the role of inflammation and the implementation of anti-inflammatory treatment within all eye structures.
