Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metabolic disorders, encompassing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), sarcopenia, and related comorbidities, have become a pervasive global health burden, closely linked to aging, sedentary lifestyles, and intricate molecular imbalances. Despite remarkable progress in understanding metabolic pathophysiology, critical gaps remain in unraveling core molecular mechanisms, identifying reliable biomarkers, and developing targeted therapeutic strategies for these complex diseases.
This Special Issue focuses on cutting-edge molecular research into metabolic disorders, aiming to bridge basic research and clinical translation. It encompasses diverse key research directions: mechanobiology of adipose tissue, mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammatory signaling pathways, β-cell stress biomarkers, gut microbiota–metabolite crosstalk, muscle-adipose metabolic interactions, and novel drug targets. The Special Issue integrates multi-dimensional studies, including basic mechanistic explorations, multi-omics, clinical cross-sectional and longitudinal cohorts, and preclinical drug efficacy evaluations. By consolidating these advances, we aim to uncover novel pathogenic mechanisms, validate promising biomarkers, and advance precision prevention and treatment strategies for metabolic disorders.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biomedicines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
