Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for a Special Issue in Behavioral Sciences that focuses on the role of future time perspecitive among young adults. Future time perspective has been defined and conceptualized in various ways, such as in the form of a personality trait, a malleable cognitive construct, and as a perception of remaining time. One thing, however, remains clear, namely that future time perspective is a key determinant of developmental outcomes in many domains of life. We are seeking orginal articles such as literature reviews, quantitative studies, and qualitiative studies. Basic research such as empirical articles examining the psychometic characterstics of future time persepctive measures, articles testing or comparing theories, and applied research examining the effectiveness of future time perspective interventions are all welcome. Potential topics for submission include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The role of future time perspective in decision-making or goal-setting among young adults;
  • The influence of future time perspective on planning for the future;
  • The relationship between future time perspective and various developmental outcomes, such as prosocial behaviors, career success, or finanical planning;
  • The developmental trajectory of future time perspective during young adulthood;
  • How various social, environmental, or cultural factors might influence future time perspective, including cross-cultural comparisions;
  • The relationship between future time perspective and mental health and/or well-being among young adults;
  • Interventions or programs designed to increase young adults’ levels of future time perspective;
  • The role of future time perspective in identity development among young adults.

We hope that this Special Issue will contribute to the understanding of future time perspective in a holistic way from both a theoretical perspective and through applied interventions.
