Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

China faces significant atmospheric pollution challenges, with ground-level ozone (O3) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) posing major threats to air quality, public health, and climate. This Special Issue explores the complex dynamics of these pollutants, focusing on their formation mechanisms, spatiotemporal variability, and interactions under changing emission patterns and meteorological conditions.

This Special Issue focuses on the formation mechanisms, transport processes, and environmental impacts of these pollutants, with special attention to the following: (1) photochemical O3 formation and its atmospheric transport dynamics; (2) O3 pollution characteristics over complex terrain regions; (3) physical and chemical processes controlling O3 in the atmospheric boundary layer; (4) multi-scale interactions between O3, aerosols, and meteorological conditions; (5) greenhouse gas observations and their environmental effects; (6) long-range transport of aerosols and their climatic impacts; (7) chemical mechanisms governing secondary aerosol formation; and (8) aerosol–radiation–cloud interactions.

We invite high-quality research employing field observations, laboratory experiments, remote sensing, and numerical modeling to advance our understanding of these critical atmospheric processes. To be considered for publication in this Special Issue of Atmosphere, the submitted research should be focused on  mechanisms impacting air quality in China.

This Special Issue calls for original research papers on urban ozone pollution, including, but not limited to, the following topics:

  1. The formation and transport of ozone in the atmosphere;
  2. Ozone pollution over complex terrains;
  3. Physical and chemical processes governing ozone in the atmospheric boundary layer;
  4. Interaction between ozone, aerosols, and meteorology;
  5. Observation of greenhouse gas;
  6. Long-range transport of aerosols;
  7. Chemical mechanism for the formation of secondary aerosols;
  8. Interaction between aerosols, radiation, and clouds.

Contributions regarding field observations, air quality models, smog chamber simulations ,  and machine learning are also welcome. We look forward to your contributions.
