Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to present this Special Issue “Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Tool for Architectural Design and Urban Planning”. As AI continues to transform various sectors, its applications within architecture and urban planning have become increasingly influential, offering innovative solutions and enhancing creative possibilities.
This Special Issue brings together a diverse range of articles that explore the intersections of AI with architectural design, urban planning, and the built environment. From generative design processes to predictive modeling and smart cities, the contributions to this issue showcase how AI technologies are reshaping the way we conceive, plan, and build our urban spaces. The authors present cutting-edge research, case studies, and conceptual frameworks, providing readers with valuable insights into both the benefits and challenges of integrating AI into architectural and urban planning practices.
In addition to presenting innovative perspectives, this Special Issue seeks to complement and expand upon the existing literature in the field. By introducing new approaches, methodologies, and case studies, it provides a fresh lens through which to view AI’s growing role in shaping the future of architecture and urbanism. These contributions aim to fill gaps in knowledge, propose new frameworks, and inspire further exploration, offering a rich resource for both researchers and practitioners alike.
As we continue to explore AI’s role in shaping the future of cities, this issue aims to spark new conversations, inspire innovation, and contribute to the ongoing development of intelligent design practices. We invite authors to contribute articles considering how AI might influence the next generation of architecture and urban planning as we move towards smarter, more adaptive, and more connected environments.
We request that, prior to submitting a manuscript, interested authors initially submit a proposed title and an abstract of 300–500 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send it to the guest editors (isidro.navarro@upc.edu) or to the Administrative Sciences editorial office (admsci@mdpi.com). Abstracts will be reviewed by the guest editors for the purposes of ensuring proper fit within the scope of the Special Issue. Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Architecture is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
