Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The field of ophthalmology is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by advancements in diagnostic technologies and therapeutic modalities. This Special Issue, titled “Advances in Eye Disease Diseases and Their Treatment”, seeks original research articles, review papers, and case studies showcasing the latest innovations and emerging trends that are shaping the future of eye care. Contributions will explore cutting-edge research and clinical breakthroughs in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of various eye diseases, including retinal disease, corneal disorders, ocular inflammation, and ocular oncology.
Key topics will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Advancements in Imaging Techniques: New developments in ocular imaging, including OCT (optical coherence tomography) and adaptive optics, which enhance early detection and monitoring of eye diseases.
- Gene Therapy and Molecular Interventions: The latest progress in gene editing and molecular therapies aimed at treating inherited retinal disorders, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and other degenerative conditions.
- Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapies: Innovations in regenerative medicine, including stem cell therapy, retinal implants, and tissue engineering, offering new hope for vision restoration in patients with a severe vision loss.
- Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques: Advances in surgical interventions, including laser treatments, minimally invasive surgeries for glaucoma, and precision surgeries for cataract and refractive disorders, which improve patient outcomes and recovery times.
- Personalized and Precision Medicine: How genetic profiling, biomarkers, and individualized treatment plans are revolutionizing care for patients with chronic eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy, AMD, and glaucoma.
- Drug Delivery Systems and Novel Therapies: The development of innovative drug delivery systems, including sustained-release intravitreal injections, nanoparticle-based drug delivery (including RNA delivery), and new pharmacological modulators targeting retinal diseases and ocular inflammation.
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: The role of AI in enhancing diagnostic accuracy, predicting disease progression, and personalizing treatment plans for eye diseases.
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest trends and research studies that will drive the future of eye disease management and treatment, fostering a multidisciplinary approach for improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Researchers, clinicians, and innovators are invited to contribute their work on groundbreaking studies, clinical trials, and novel therapeutic approaches in the fight against eye disease.
We look forward to your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
