Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Water distribution networks are fundamental infrastructures that ensure the delivery of water for urban, agricultural, industrial, and environmental applications. Recent advancements in computational methods, experimental techniques, and optimization strategies have opened new pathways to enhance the design, operation, and performance of these networks. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for cutting-edge research on the latest developments in water distribution networks, covering a wide range of topics related to their design, simulation, and practical applications.
Key areas of interest include innovative methodologies for optimizing water distribution systems, integrating hydraulic energy recovery and flow control, and improving water storage management in reservoirs, tanks, and irrigation systems. Additionally, contributions addressing the use of advanced simulation techniques such as computational fluid dynamics, fuzzy logic systems, and specialized software for modeling and optimization are highly encouraged.
Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The design and optimization of water distribution networks;
- The application of turbines in water systems;
- Irrigation systems and their efficiency improvements;
- Reservoir and storage tank regulation for sustainable water management;
- Industrial applications of water distribution systems;
- The integration of computational fluid dynamic simulations in water distribution network modeling and analysis;
- The application of fuzzy logic and other computing techniques;
- Experimental studies;
- Energy recovery and sustainability;
In this Special Issue, original research that contributes to advancing the understanding and development of water distribution networks is welcome. This Special Issue aims to highlight innovative, interdisciplinary solutions for sustainable water management.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
