Current Advances in Electric Motors, Drives and Power Converters Technologies

This special issue belongs to the section “Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Power converters, including DC/AC inverters and DC/DC converters, have two basic applications: efficient motor drives and power supplies, e.g., in UPS systems and on- or off-grid renewable energy (PV or wind turbines) systems. Motor driving and supply systems can have different requirements according to specific standards, but have one requirement in common—high efficiency. Using modulation techniques (e.g., space vector modulation), three-phase motor drives require the best use of the input DC voltage, allowing for harmonics in line voltages. Today, automotive applications of motor drives are wide-ranging. In power supplies, output voltage distortions for the standard nonlinear load should be reduced, while the over- and under-voltage and settling time after dynamic load change should be kept within allowable boundaries. All these requirements can be fulfilled by means of modern technologies, for example, using WBG switching transistors (as SiC or GaN FETs) that allow for lower power losses with a higher switching frequency; using multilevel inverters; and using new control algorithms that allow for faster transient response and lower steady state errors. Novel metaheuristic (e.g., CSO) or fuzzy logic control techniques can be used in power converters' adaptive control, while power DC/DC converters have unlimited applications. Similarly to inverters, these new techniques and technologies increase efficiency and output voltage quality. Such models are required for approaches to the control of all kinds of power converters.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
