Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a request for contributions to our Special Issue of Applied Sciences, entitled: Stay Healthy: Current Perspectives on Muscle and Bone. Processes regulating both bone and muscle health are interrelated at the molecular, cell, and whole-body levels. The range and network of biomolecular interactions and the crosstalk that exists between these tissues have attracted increased attention from research audiences in recent years. The management of musculoskeletal health has remained a clinical challenge, and in aging populations, it is especially critical to preventing a host of bone-related, metabolic, and off-target dysfunctions while ultimately reducing fracture-risk. Therapeutic modalities and pharmaceutical interventions have been designed to target signal-transduction pathways and molecular factors derived from basic research into these pathological conditions. Improving our understanding of the physiological implications dictating bone and muscle health will guide advances in research and improve long-term clinical outcomes.

In this regard, a list of potential topics of consideration is suggested for manuscript publications; however, we welcome other original topics similar in scope, which may fit the context of this issue and be of interest to researchers, clinicians, and the general readership.

Proposed areas of consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Osteoporosis;
  • Sarcopenia;
  • Diagnostics;
  • Aging;
  • Bone and muscle targeted therapies;
  • Nephrology-associated effects on bone and muscle;
  • Exercise effects on bone and muscle;
  • Current clinical perspectives on bone health;
  • Relationship between bone and muscle pain;
  • Defects in mineralization;
  • Advances in improving pediatric musculoskeletal deficiencies.

I appreciate your consideration and look forward to your contribution to Applied Sciences. We look forward to working with you.

Regards,

Dr. Gabriel M. Pagnotti
Guest Editor

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
