Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles have become a very popular unmanned platform, which is still in the stage of intensive research and is applicable in various military and civilian fields. Fixed-wing, multi-rotor, helicopters, vertical take-off and landing unmanned vehicles are increasingly being used, among others, for observation, recognition, monitoring of communication infrastructure, supporting rescue operations and monitoring the state of air pollution. They can replace human activities in simple, time-consuming activities as well as in hazardous environments.

This issue provides a unique opportunity to share pioneering research in the area of design, modeling, guidance, navigation and control methods for UAVs, based on the most important inventions or current applications.

The focal points of this Special Issue cover a broad spectrum of topics, including aerodynamics, structural dynamics, propulsion systems, control theory and optimization algorithms. Articles that delve into the practical application of control algorithms for unmanned aerial vehicles are welcome. Also, papers that consider issues of flight optimization and the improvement of operating conditions for both individual flying objects and groups of objects fall within the scope of this Special Issue. We wish to follow the trends set by modern aviation. The use and application of new technologies in design and control is an important area of knowledge to which we wish to devote this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
