Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

High-power fiber lasers have become a cornerstone technology in modern photonics, enabling transformative advances across industrial manufacturing, scientific research, and medical applications. With their exceptional beam quality, high efficiency, and robust power scalability, these lasers are revolutionizing processes such as precision cutting, welding, additive manufacturing, and laser cleaning—driving innovation in sectors including aerospace, automotive, and energy.

Recent years have witnessed rapid progress in novel fiber designs, advanced pump architectures, multi-kilowatt power scaling, and intelligent laser systems empowered by artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, emerging trends in wavelength extension, ultrafast pulse manipulation, and mode-controlled operation are opening up new opportunities for laser performance and functionality.

This Special Issue aims to present the latest breakthroughs and state-of-the-art developments in the field. We invite authors to submit original research articles and comprehensive reviews covering, but not limited to, the following:

  • Novel fiber laser architectures and power scaling strategies;
  • Advanced specialty fibers and photonic crystal fiber designs;
  • High-brightness pump sources and efficient energy coupling techniques;
  • Wavelength-tunable and mid-infrared fiber lasers;
  • Ultrafast and high-peak-power fiber laser systems;
  • Mode control, beam quality optimization, and nonlinear management;
  • AI-enabled intelligent laser operation and real-time monitoring;
  • Applications in extreme manufacturing, defense, and scientific instrumentation.

By bringing together cutting-edge contributions from leading researchers, this Special Issue seeks to highlight the current trajectory and future directions of high-power fiber laser technology, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerating its impact on science and industry.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
