Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of rehabilitation and physiotherapy is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by an evolving global health landscape. Aging populations and the increasing prevalence of chronic conditions and complex multi-morbidities necessitate a paradigm shift towards more effective, accessible, and personalized therapeutic interventions. This evolution is being fueled by a surge of innovation, particularly in the digital and engineering spheres, which promises to redefine traditional approaches to recovery and functional improvement.

This Special Issue aims to capture the forefront of this progress by highlighting groundbreaking research and clinical applications. We seek to showcase advances that span the development and clinical implementation of cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, wearable sensors, and virtual reality for assessment and intervention. Furthermore, we encourage contributions that explore novel biological and mechanistic approaches, including neuromodulation and regenerative medicine, alongside evidence-based innovations in manual therapy and exercise prescription. A critical focus will also be on implementation science: research that bridges the gap between evidence and practice, examines the scalability of new interventions, and addresses challenges in healthcare delivery, including the integration of telerehabilitation and strategies for maintaining equitable access to care across diverse populations.

We invite researchers to contribute original research, systematic reviews, and insightful case studies that demonstrate a direct impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes. Your work will contribute to a critical discourse on shaping the next generation of rehabilitation, ultimately leading to more effective, efficient, and patient-centered care worldwide.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
