Dear Colleagues,
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are recognized as an important global public health and patient safety issue. The World Health Organization estimates that out of every 100 patients in acute-care facilities, seven patients in high-income countries and 15 patients in low- and middle-income countries will acquire at least one HAI during their hospital stay. In the United States, about 1 in 31 hospitalized patients has at least one HAI. In preventing HAIs, antimicrobial stewardship programs work vigorously and collaboratively with infection prevention and control in developing top, innovative defense strategies to slow the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance.
This Special Issue is focused on antimicrobial stewardship strategies targeting HAIs. We welcome the submission of manuscripts in the form of original research, brief reports, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, reviews, perspectives, opinions, and interesting cases that highlight antimicrobial stewardship efforts in managing HAIs, such as (but not limited to) central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, surgical site infections, hospital-onset C. difficile infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and hospital-onset methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream infections.

Antibiotics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
