Special Issue Information
Antimicrobial resistance has become a critical global public health threat, driven largely by excessive and inappropriate antimicrobial use. Antimicrobial stewardship, which promotes rational antimicrobial use in clinical and community settings, is a key strategy to tackle this crisis.
Effective stewardship interventions rely on robust evidence, including antimicrobial usage trends across contexts, stakeholder roles in the supply and prescription chain, and the root causes of persistent misuse.
Nearly 80 years after Alexander Fleming first warned of antimicrobial resistance risks, the world still struggles to address misuse, overprescription and unregulated dispensing of these vital drugs.
We are pleased to announce an Antibiotics Special Issue titled "Feature Reviews in Antibiotics Use and Antimicrobial Stewardship 2026". This collection will highlight cutting-edge research on antimicrobial consumption, utilization and stewardship. We invite review articles covering usage data analyses, methodological innovations, and behavioral factors influencing prescribing decisions.
We also welcome submissions summarizing stewardship program outcomes, successful interventions and the global status of antimicrobial use and resistance. This Special Issue aims to identify transferable best practices and critical knowledge gaps to advance global stewardship efforts.
