Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Dr. Aditya K. Gupta is a distinguished dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon whose career spans clinical dermatology, onychomycosis, and hair disorders. With over 900 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and an h-index of 121, his scholarly contributions have advanced dermatologic science and clinical practice worldwide.

Dr. Gupta obtained his medical degree from the University of Southampton Medical School in the United Kingdom and later earned a PhD in Dermatology from the University of Göteborg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Sweden. His academic trajectory is further distinguished by MBAs in both general management and healthcare management, reflecting his commitment to integrated, evidence-based innovation in clinical research.

Currently, Dr. Gupta is a Professor in the Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and serves as a Director of Clinical Research and Laboratory Director at Mediprobe Research Inc., a leading site for Phase II–IV dermatological trials in London, Ontario. His leadership at Mediprobe is underscored by over two decades of pioneering work in clinical mycology, antifungal resistance, and the treatment of dermatophytosis.

A certified investigator (CPI, CCRP), Dr. Gupta is extensively involved in regulatory-compliant trials and has been instrumental in developing modern paradigms for the diagnosis and treatment of onychomycosis. His expertise spans multiple domains: from the application of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) diagnostics to network meta-analyses that guide therapeutic decisions in alopecia and vitiligo.

Dr. Gupta's editorial and advisory roles are equally robust. He serves on the editorial boards of numerous journals including Journal of the American of Dermatology (JAAD Reviews), Journal of Dermatological Treatment, Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (Senior Associate Editor), Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (Associate Editor), and SKINMed (Deputy Editor). His contributions are valued by The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, and Journal of Investigative Dermatology, among others, where he has served as peer reviewer.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gupta has received multiple awards, including the ISHRS Platinum Follicle Award (2023), numerous poster and innovation awards, and competitive research grants supporting investigations into androgenetic alopecia, low-dose oral minoxidil safety, and musculoskeletal health among hair transplant surgeons. His sustained excellence and leadership have shaped best practices and set new standards in dermatological therapeutics and cosmetic science.

Antibiotics is pleased to announce a Special Issue honoring Dr. Aditya K. Gupta for his outstanding and sustained contributions to the diagnosis, treatment, and global epidemiology of onychomycosis and superficial fungal infections. This Special Issue is dedicated to all aspects of onychomycosis and superficial fungal infections, including antifungal resistance, molecular diagnostics, treatment algorithms, clinical trial innovations, and stewardship strategies to optimize therapeutic outcomes in an era of emerging resistance.
