Special Issue "Human-Animal Interactions: Individuals vs. Ecology"
A special issue of Animals (ISSN 2076-2615). This special issue belongs to the section "Human-Animal Interactions, Animal Behaviour and Emotion".
Deadline for manuscript submissions: closed (31 December 2020).
Interests: animal philosophy; philosophy of architecture; ontology
The "animal question" is, from the beginning, a metaphysical and not just an ethical question. The aim of this Special Issue is to present recent research and reviews on the implications of the differences of an ontological approach based on the classification of individuals compared to one based on the classes of individuals (ecology). At the cutting edge of philosophical literature, three conceptual issues need to be addressed: (1) Is the notion of "life form" an individual or collective entity? (2) Are the ecological approach and the individualistic approach compatible or in contradiction? (3) How do human–animal interactions change if one chooses the first or second background?
Original manuscripts that address any aspects of the metaphysical and ontological assumptions of the animal question are invited for this Special Issue. In particular, papers that consider ethics consequent to ontological choice, ecology as a metaphysical question, "Compatibilism" between individuals and ecology, and the "posthuman" as an integrative approach between animal ethics and ecology.
