Dear Colleagues,
Humans and dogs have lived together for over 40,000 years and have found a way to make cross-species communication possible. Dogs are not just companions to humans, they are also used to support humans with their strength, speed, and senses. Education and training play a major role in all of these areas, and a strong knowledge of learning behavior and communication principles is essential. The foundation for these processes are classical and operant conditioning. However, have we already reached the end of this story? Are there alternative approaches to dog training? Can we change the structure of training? Are there ways to influence the environment so that dogs can learn better? This Special Issue is intended to optimize dog training and also to demonstrate new approaches. All publications in this context are warmly welcome.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
