Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As the demand for sustainable aquaculture continues to grow, aquatic animals are continually exposed to numerous environmental and physiological stressors that can alter growth, health, welfare, and overall sustainability. The question of stress alleviation and resilience enhancement with the help of feed additives has emerged as a significant frontier of aquaculture research. It gives us the honor to ask you to submit your contribution to this Special Issue that, hopefully, will promote the scientific understanding of innovative nutritional strategies that can benefit the health, welfare, and sustainability of aquatic species.

The interest of this Special Issue is to understand the roles of functional and environmentally friendly feed supplements and diet plans in the process of relieving stress, enhancing physiological processes, and improving the welfare and sustainability of the aquaculture species. It is in line with the focus of the journal insofar as it highlights the need to integrate functional nutrition, environmental stewardship, and animal health management.

Original research manuscripts and reviews are also welcome in this Special Issue. The research areas can be (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Functional feed additives (e.g., amino acids, peptides, probiotics, and plant extracts);
  • Modulation of stress and immune responses by nutrition;
  • Antioxidant self-defense and oxidative stress;
  • Physiological biomarker welfare indicators in aquaculture.

The development of sustainable feed formulation and the formation of a circular bioeconomy.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
