Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Communication is an integral component of veterinary clinical practice, with effective communication instilling client confidence in the clinical pathway for maximizing the health and welfare of their pet. Communication skills are rarely innate, relying on role models, the ‘hidden’ curriculum and experience. This Special Issue will focus on how effective clinical communication skills can be taught or developed throughout the veterinary program so that graduates enter clinical practice with verbal and non-verbal skills to ensure that their technical and theoretical skills can be applied to their full potential. This Special Issue will also showcase the various approaches that veterinary educators use to develop communication skills and how this may be assessed, permitting useful comparisons between veterinary programs globally. It will also hopefully define the non-clinical aspects of a veterinary clinician’s skillset that clients will cognitively attribute to being a ’good vet’.
