Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Global agricultural water consumption accounts for approximately 70% of total freshwater withdrawal. Climate change has intensified the uneven temporal and spatial distribution of water resources, posing significant challenges to achieving key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2, SDG 6, and SDG 13. While international cooperation has advanced water conservation initiatives in recent years, persistent regional disparities continue to hinder progress. This Special Issue seeks to align with the SDG framework by exploring pathways toward sustainable global agricultural water management, with a focus on cross-border policy coordination, technological innovation, and ecological adaptation strategies. Current cutting-edge research emphasizes smart irrigation systems integrated with SDG objectives, transboundary water rights allocation, and climate-resilient agricultural practices. We invite submissions in the following areas: (1) the coupling mechanism between regional agricultural water policies and SDG targets; (2) empirical studies on water-saving technologies and their contributions to achieving SDG2 and SDG6; (3) cross-border collaborative management frameworks for shared water resources; and (4) assessments of agricultural water management’s role in advancing SDG13. Interdisciplinary and transnational case studies are especially encouraged.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
