Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The nutrient management and fertilization of fruit trees constitute major challenges in contemporary orchard production systems. Sustainable fruit production depends on a precise and balanced supply of mineral nutrients to replace those removed by harvests and to compensate for losses. Empirical fertilization practices are increasingly insufficient, emphasizing the need for science-based, integrated nutrient management approaches.
Recent advances in orchard nutrition have led to the widespread adoption of precision nutrient management technologies, enabling site-specific fertilizer applications that improve nutrient use efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and enhance fruit quality and storability. At the same time, progress in rhizosphere research and plant–microbe interactions has supported the development of innovative inputs, including slow- and controlled-release fertilizers, nitrification and urease inhibitors, mycorrhizal fungi, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria, biofertilizers, and biostimulants. These strategies aim to optimize nutrient availability and uptake while reducing dependence on inorganic fertilizers.
This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in fruit tree nutrition and fertilization. Contributions may examine, but are not limited to, the following issues: nutrient status assessment and diagnostics; the regulation of nutrient availability through biotic and abiotic factors; nutrient use efficiency and balances in orchard systems; the enhancement of fertilizer efficiency; and the application of organic amendments, biochar, and novel fertilizer formulations.
Original research articles, reviews, and short communications relevant to the topic of the Special Issue are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
