Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, blockchain technology has attracted growing interest in the agri-food sector, thanks to its potential to transform agricultural supply chains in terms of transparency, traceability, and trust between the actors involved. Originally developed to support cryptocurrencies, blockchain is now considered a strategic lever for radically improving food safety, reducing fraud, and enhancing sustainability in agri-food systems, with a particular focus on high-quality systems that want to communicate their value in a more transparent manner.
This Special Issue aims to explore the role and emerging applications of blockchain throughout the entire agricultural value chain. The goal is to collect scientific contributions that analyse, from multidisciplinary perspectives, the effects, challenges, and opportunities associated with the adoption of this technology in real-world contexts. We therefore invite the submission of original articles and case studies covering, among other topics, product traceability, digital certification, operational efficiency, governance models, and integration with other technologies (e.g., IoT, AI). Just to give a few examples, this Special Issue could feature studies on the integration of technology with production, research on supplier relationships and corporate dynamics, in-depth analyses of the challenges associated with the integration of multiple players, and the consumer's relationship with traceable products and their segmentation according to socio-demographic and psychographic characteristics.
Contributions presenting innovative approaches, empirical results, and critical reflections on the transformative potential of blockchain in agri-food supply chains are particularly welcome.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
