Prof. Dr. Chunyang Zhang Appointed Associate Editor of Biosensors and Section Editor-in-Chief of Section “Biosensors and Healthcare”

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Chunyang Zhang has been appointed Associate Editor of Biosensors (ISSN: 2079-6374) and the Section Editor-in-Chief of its Section entitled “Biosensors and Healthcare”.

Prof. Dr. Chunyang Zhang is the doctoral supervisor of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Southeast University. He is a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Leading Talent of National High-Level Talent Special Support Programs (10,000 Talents Program), and also receives special allowances from the State Council.

Prof. Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. degree from Peking University in 1999. He worked at Tsinghua University and Emory University as a postdoctoral researcher, and then as a research scientist at The Johns Hopkins University and The City University of New York. Prof. Dr. Zhang returned to China in 2009 as a professor at Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was shortlisted for the “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010. In 2013, he was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and was shortlisted for a Distinguished Professor of “Pengcheng Scholars” in Shenzhen and “Southern Guangdong Hundred Talents” in Guangdong Province in 2014. In 2015, he was shortlisted for the Innovation Talent Promotion Plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2017, he was shortlisted for the National High-Level Talent Special Support Programs (10,000 Talents Program)-Leading Talents.

Prof. Dr. Chunyang Zhang's main research interests include single-molecule detection and imaging and their clinical applications. He has published more than 300 papers in internationally renowned journals including Nature Materials, Chemical Reviews, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Nano Letters, Chemical Science, Analytical Chemistry and Biosensors. He has been shortlisted as one of the “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” by Elsevier many times. He also has authorized more than 60 national invention patents and 1 U.S. patent.

The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Chunyang Zhang, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views of the research area and open access publishing:

1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take on the role of its Associate Editor?
Biosensors is a well-known journal in the field of analytical chemistry. I have more than 30 years of research experience in analytical chemistry, focusing on the development of novel biosensors and their clinical applications. It is an honor for me to be the Associate Editor of Biosensors, which gives me an opportunity to contribute to this journal and promote the advancement of this field.

2. What is your vision for the journal?
This journal provides a valuable platform for researchers to publish their innovative ideas and findings. By constantly improving the quality of the papers published in this journal, I believe that Biosensors will become one of the leading journals in the field.

3. What does the future of this field of research look like?
Biosensors that can efficiently detect diverse disease-related biomarkers are critical to human health. With the increasing emphasis on healthcare around the world, I believe that there is a promising future in this field, and a lot of groundbreaking research will emerge in the future.

4. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?
I think that open access is a trend in the current publishing field, and it enables everyone to read interesting articles for free, which will greatly facilitate the exchanging and spreading of the latest scientific research on time.
