Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

It is an interesting review paper. It is well oraganized and well written. Following minor comments may help to enhance the quality of the paper:

*There are other approaches for discrete fracture modeling which tries to cover the limitations from purely stochastic nature of the DFN modelling. In the following paper, authors will insights regarding these physical-based methods. As a review paper, it is better to mention such methods in a summurized words: An improved simulated annealing algorithm in fracture network modeling *Line 20: The final DFN could be 2D or 3D based on the required application. *Line 27: Authors may want to add the fracture aperture. *Line 43: Faults mentioned for 2 times. *However authors wrote about the importance of the DFN in the geothermal heat extraction, but it is better to add more details and bring the context in a separate section as the application of the DFN in geothermal systems. There are some insights in the following papers: Hydrothermal Numerical Simulation of Injection Operations at United Downs, Cornwall, UK; Hydro-Thermal Modeling for Geothermal Energy Extraction from Soultz-sous-Forêts, France *Line 141: Please order the references based on the alphabet or year of the publication when you have more than one reference. *Section 2.1: I think that the most part of this section is a generic explanation and it is not specified for the mining application. Please check it. *Line 151: Please check the citation: Davy et al., 2018 *Please check all citations and be consistent. Somewhere you are used author et al (year), while in other places: author et al., (year); author et al. (year) or 1st author and 2nd author; 1st author&2nd author. *Line 177: RANSAC? *Please check the index of P in line 263-265. *Figure 4 (page 17): 2e-5? *Line 579: ) is not necassary here. *Figure 17: The resolution is low. *Please check the 105th reference and also check all references to be sure that all of them cited in the text. *Figure 18 is small and inside text is not clear. *Line 744: Please fix P32. *Line 857: Revise the citation here please. *Line 946-957: If you can, please use shorter sentences. *It would be perfect if you can list the available software for DFN modeling such as FracMan.

Reviewer 2 Report

The discrete fracture networks (DFN) have become indispensable tools for geomechanical modelling of jointed rock masses. This paper introduces the Principles of modelling in DFN, Data capturing for DFN Modelling, Application of DFN Approach in predicting stability analysis of Jointed Rock, General Applications of DFNs, etc. Some minor suggestions,

1.  The description of the DFN should be introduced for better understanding to the readers.

2. And also the development of the DFN should be introduced.

3. For the DFN used in petroleum industry, more cases should be given. such as :
