Round  1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article submitted for review is interesting and carefully prepared both in the experiment and in the description of the investigation results. There are only minor corrections that should be made to the article. My suggestions are as follows:

- p.2, (2.1. Preparation),  line 2, it was written  „tetraethxysilane” it is correct „tetraethoxysilane”

- p.4, (3.1. Structural analisis), line 10, data discussed in the text, I quote: ‘’(S1) led to formation of the pores of ~2.3 nm” do not agree with the data presented in Table 1. I am asking you to check this data.

- p. 7, line 16 data in the text, I quote ’’1.5 nm, 3 nm and ~50 nm’’ check with data  (table 1)

- p. 7, line 22 data in the text, I quote: ‘’ Rdom ~0.8; 2.5 and 7.7 nm” check with data (table 1)

- p 8, line47, ‘’mesopores (~70% - %Smeso, ~88% - %Vmes’’  check with data  (table 1)

- p.8, line 49, data: ‘’%Smeso ~93%, %Vmeso ~90-97%’’  present more accurately ‘’%Smeso ~72-97%, %Vmeso ~90-99.7%’’

-p.12, line 143, in the text, Table 3 replace Table 4

Author Response

I am grateful for the Reviewers for the detailed and factual evaluation of the manuscript. It has been corrected including the Reviewers' remarks.

Below is the list of changes made in the manuscript. It was prepared with the option " change follow".

Reviewer 1:

- typing errors have been corrected

- main remarks concerned the approximate values quoted from Table 1. All values were corrected.

- the table number has been corrected.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript has several drawbacks such as:

- the abbreviations should be explained in their first time appearance , example TEOS, Q-TG, PSD, etc.;

- the introduction presents only the types of silicates and not the characterisation methods already available in the literature data;

 - the preparation section can must be organised in sample categories in order to follow the synthesised materials and the commercial ones; it is not clear how or which samples were used for the characterisation;

- I recommend to write the equations in the methods (textural) with the equation tool available in word and separated from the text;

- the sentences are too long to follow, please be more specific and divide the information in order to understand its content;

- english writing errors, sentences without any sense, please revise it;

- the font should be the same (type and size) in the whole body text;

- It is not clear why the authors did not compare the results with standard silica so we can have a clear picture of the derivatives;

- the conclusion should be more informative, for example the results in DSC or TG not just mentioned that you have done them.

Author Response

I am grateful for the Reviewers for the detailed and factual evaluation of the manuscript. It has been corrected including the Reviewers' remarks.

Below is the list of changes made in the manuscript. It was prepared with the option " change follow".

Reviewer 2:

-        all abbreviations have been explained at the first time appearance. Sometimes, for clarity, they were also repeated in the text;

-        introduction information on the selected research methods used to study silica materials has been completed. Literature references have also been supplemented;

-        as suggested by the Reviewer, the nomenclature of the samples in the Preparation section has been changed. In Table 1, the order of the samples has been changed by scheduling them according to the method of preparation. In my opinion, this facilitated understanding greatly. Accordingly, the designations have been changed throughout the text and figures;

-        all equations were transferred to the METHODS part and converted using the equation tool in word;

-        a thorough correction of the English language was made. Sentences have been transformed and shortened. Owing to this the text is more comprehensible;

-        the fonts has been unified in the whole text;

-        According to the Reviewer's remark, Fig. 1b includes the PSDV curves for the initial additives A-50 and A-380. The appropriate comment is also included in the text of the manuscript.

-        the conclusions have been supplemented.
